A hood that has grown quieter or weaker at the same speed setting is checked at the grease filters and duct run before the blower motor is blamed – a filter clogged with grease, a crushed flexible duct, a stuck damper or a blocked wall cap all reduce airflow with a perfectly healthy motor. Once filters and duct are ruled out, the blower motor, its capacitor and the speed control are tested with the hood isolated at its breaker.

Recirculating hoods add a charcoal filter that cannot be washed and needs periodic replacement on top of the washable grease filters both hood types use; a recirculating hood with clean grease filters and old charcoal will run and sound normal while doing little to clear cooking smells. Lighting problems are checked at the bulb or LED module, the switch and the fixture wiring, in that order.

Common Range Hoods Problems

01

A blower that runs quieter than it used to, or has dropped a speed setting entirely

02

Grease filters that no longer seem to catch smoke and steam, even when clean

03

A rattling or humming noise from inside the hood housing

04

Lights that have dimmed, flicker, or will not come on at all

05

A hood that clears steam poorly even at its highest fan speed

06

Controls that do not respond, or that turn the fan on by itself

Why Trust Us With Your Dacor Appliance & Repair Range Hoods

  • Confirmed Before It's Charged | We do not put a range hoods part on your bill on a hunch. It goes on the estimate once the technician has watched it fail an actual test.
  • Stocked For range hoods Repairs | The parts that give out most often on a Dacor range hoods ride along in the van, so most visits wrap up in a single trip. A part that is less common gets ordered specifically for your model.
  • Your Model, Not a Guess | Dacor has revised its control platforms across the Renaissance, Millennia, Epicure, Distinctive, Discovery, Contemporary, Transitional and Modernist lines, and a range hoods fix built for one generation can be the wrong fix for another. Sending a photo of the model and serial label when you book clears that up before we arrive.
  • Honest About Age | When an older range hoods is not worth repairing, we tell you plainly, even though it is the one answer that loses us the job.
FAQ

Range Hoods Repair FAQ

It can be an early sign of a blower motor or capacitor losing strength, but it is also worth ruling out a duct problem first - a crushed flexible duct, a stuck damper, or a wall cap blocked with debris all make a hood sound and perform weaker even with a healthy motor. Clean, correctly seated grease filters and a clear duct run are worth checking before assuming the motor itself has failed.

A flickering light on its own is not typically a fire risk, but with the hood switched off and the bulb or fixture cool, it is worth having the wiring and fixture checked rather than ignored, since a loose connection that causes flickering can also build up heat at that connection over time.

More, in one respect: a recirculating hood pushes air through a charcoal filter that cannot be washed and has to be replaced on schedule, on top of the washable grease filters both types use. A recirculating hood with fresh grease filters and stale charcoal moves plenty of air and removes no smell, which owners often describe as a hood that has stopped working.
