What C-23 Means
C-23 is about the meat probe, not the oven sensor. Dacor’s table says the temperature probe reads shorted while the oven operates. The oven itself is usually fine; it is the probe or the probe jack in the cavity wall that the control objects to.
Common Causes of C-23
- Probe cable pinched in the door or damaged by heat
- Moisture or grease inside the probe jack
- Shorted wiring from the jack to the control
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unplug the probe from the jack, dry the metal plug and the jack with a soft cloth once the oven is cool, and look for a kinked or crushed cable. Restart the oven without the probe. If C-23 disappears, the probe was the cause; if it stays with nothing plugged in, the jack or its wiring needs attention.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The jack wiring runs behind the cavity side wall; replacing it means removing the oven from the wall.
- A shorted probe can give false readings, and cooking meat by a wrong probe reading is a food-safety risk.
