What C42 Means
C42 is a memory check failure. The Renaissance control calculates a checksum on its E2 (EEPROM) memory and compares it with the stored value; C42 means they no longer agree. Dacor marks this code as stored in memory, so it can reappear in the service history.
Common Causes of C42
- Control board memory corrupted by a power surge
- Control board aging
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the breaker off for a minute and back on. If the oven comes back normally, note the date; if C42 returns, the control board needs replacing.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A board with corrupted memory cannot be repaired in place; it is replaced and then configured for the oven type.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
