Dacor Appliance & Repair Outdoor Grills Repair

Outdoor Grills Repair, Done Right the First Time

Dacor stopped making outdoor grills years ago, but the Epicure and Heritage-era built-in units sold as the OB and OBS lines are still doing duty in plenty of American backyards and outdoor kitchen islands. These are gas grills at heart, so most problems trace to the ignition path, the gas delivery path or plain weather wear rather than anything electronic, with the OBS models adding an infrared sear burner and, on both the 36 and 52-inch OBS grills, an infrared rotisserie burner as well. Because Dacor no longer sells parts or support for the line, we confirm the exact model and fuel type from the rating plate before sourcing anything through an appliance parts specialist.

Dacor’s outdoor grill line is discontinued, but the OB and OBS built-in gas grills from the Epicure and Heritage generations are still mounted into plenty of outdoor kitchen islands across the country. The 36-inch models (OB36, OBS36) and 52-inch models (OB52, OBS52) were each built for either liquid propane or natural gas, never both, so the fuel type stamped on the rating plate matters before any valve or orifice is ordered. The OBS grills add an infrared sear burner alongside the main U-shaped burners, and both OBS sizes also carry an infrared rotisserie burner.

An outdoor grill fails in a narrower set of ways than most kitchen appliances: the ignition path (electrode, module, wiring), the gas delivery path (regulator, valve, burner ports) or wear from weather and grease buildup on the burner itself. A weak or uneven flame usually traces back to clogged burner ports or a regulator not delivering full pressure rather than a failed burner casting. Because the infrared sear burner and the rotisserie motor each run on their own circuit, a problem with one of those rarely means the main burners are affected.

Any smell of gas near the grill, a hissing sound at a fitting, or a burner that will not shut off fully at the knob means stopping use and shutting off the gas supply before anything else — leak testing and any work on the gas line, regulator or valve itself is carried out only by a technician equipped and licensed for gas work. Because Dacor no longer supports this line, replacement igniters, burner assemblies and motors are sourced from appliance parts specialists rather than the manufacturer, which is why we confirm the exact model and fuel designation from the rating plate before ordering a part.

Outdoor Grills Repair FAQ

No. Dacor discontinued its outdoor grill line, and the OB and OBS models covered here are legacy Epicure and Heritage-era units. They are still common in US backyards and we service them, but replacement parts come from appliance parts specialists rather than Dacor itself, so having the exact model and fuel type on hand before a visit helps.

Shut off the gas supply at the tank or the shutoff valve, do not attempt to light the grill again, and do not operate any switch near it. Leak detection and any work on the gas line, regulator or valve itself is a licensed professional’s job, not something to test yourself and decide is fine.

Not usually. The infrared sear burner runs on its own valve and igniter, separate from the main burners, so a problem there is typically diagnosed and repaired without touching the rest of the grill.

Often, yes. These are heavy stainless units, and most failures — an igniter, a burner, a valve, a rotisserie motor — are individual parts rather than the whole grill, so a repair is usually far cheaper than replacing a built-in island grill of this size.
