What U21 / L21 Means
U21 or L21 is the self-clean version of the overheat code. During a clean cycle a Renaissance oven is allowed to get very hot, but the service guide sets a ceiling of 890°F at the center of the cavity; U21 or L21 means that ceiling was passed.
Common Causes of U21 / L21
- Element relay stuck on during the clean cycle
- Oven sensor drifting at high temperature
- Heavy grease load flaring during self-clean
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Let the oven cool completely; the door stays locked until it is safe. Do not start another self-clean until the cause has been found.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Testing the sensor and relays at clean temperatures is specialist work with the oven partly disassembled.
- Clean-cycle overheating can damage door glass, gaskets and nearby cabinets.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
